Where You Will Work

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and various UCAR Cooperative Programs (UCP) – all in service of advancing knowledge, providing community-based resources, and building human capacity in atmospheric and related sciences.

The Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science (CPAESS—pronounced: see-pass), under the UCP, provides an extensive portfolio of placement, management, and organizational services for the broad Earth System Science community. CPAESS develops innovative solutions to complex scientific challenges, advances research capacity, and fosters community collaborations.

CPAESS provides professional development, training, and research opportunities for early career to expert scientists.  The CPAESS community includes placements at prestigious postdoctoral fellowships, short- and long-term appointments at US Federal research labs and institutions, research internships, and summer school opportunities for graduates and postdoctoral scientists. These research and training opportunities provide mentoring and career advancement; lifelong collaboration through program alumni networks; and the advancement of science worldwide through university, federal, state, municipal level, and private sector partnerships. This position will be located at the University Corporation for Atmopsheric Research, Boulder, CO.

What You Will Do

This position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will support the OceanExplorer.NOAA.gov website, which provides chronicles of ocean exploration missions funded by NOAA, access to scientific data, news, and background resources on the science of ocean exploration. The Level 1 Web Developer will work as part of a team responsible for the development, evolution, operation, and day-to-day maintenance of the website, with a focus on web crafting and multimedia tasks.

Responsibilities Include

  • Develops and tests static web pages, with CSS styling, using web editing software (Adobe Dreamweaver) 
  • Processes images for web pages using image processing software (Adobe Photoshop) 
  • Provides input, information, and assistance on assigned project as part of the overall team in regards to layout, design, and usability issues 
  • Assists in maintaining a professional static web site that conforms to web and organizational standards, researching, troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting technical problems in order to ensure website functionality 

 

What You Need

Education and Years of Experience:

REQUIRED:

Associate’s Degree in Web Development or Design plus two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRED:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Web Development or Design

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using the Adobe Creative Suite:
    • Skill in using of front-end development tools, specifically Dreamweaver
    • Proficiency in graphics editing tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS and other markup languages
  • Knowledge of web standards, specifically Section 508 standards
  • Understanding of browser compatibility and cross-browser/cross-platform issues
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5
  • Familiarity with the use of FTP sites to manage files
  • Understanding of Internet and web server fundamentals and knowledge of current and emerging web trends and technologies
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Ability to manage time to meet multiple project deadlines
