NOAA C&GC Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my Research Proposal is a fit with the NOAA C&GC Fellowship?

Please review our website, discuss the project with your proposed Host, and then reach out to Cindy Brueyère (bruyerec@ucar.edu) with any questions you may have.

Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for the NOAA Climate & Global Change (C&GC) Postdoctoral Fellowship?

No, you do not have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply. However, Fellows must be hosted by a mentoring scientist at a U.S. University or Research Institution (including Federal laboratories and FFRDCs).

How would I obtain a visa if selected as C&GC Fellow?

If not a U.S. citizen, all Postdoctoral Fellows must be able to provide documentation of their eligibility to work in the U.S. prior to beginning employment.  Although it is the responsibility of the Fellow, UCAR can provide assistance in securing visas, and should be contacted as soon as the offer of employment is made. Please reach out to Cindy Brueyère (bruyerec@ucar.edu) with any questions regarding these procedures.

The Workday application has multiple parts - is it possible to submit and save materials and return later to complete the application?

Yes, it is possible to save as you proceed through the application, and we recommend it. If you submit your application before having all of the required documents compiled, please reach out to our recruiter, Meghan Myron-Karels at myronkarels@ucar.edu, and they will be able to assist you with updating your application materials.

Is it possible to have more than one Host, from different institutions?

It is possible to have two Hosts, and both must be at U.S. institutions. They must co-write the Letter of Intent and each must submit the same suite of materials required of a potential Host.

Do I have to relocate to my Host Institution?

Yes, you will need to physically relocate. UCAR provides a Relocation Reimbursement Plan for specified relocation expenditures.

Will there be an interview after the submission of my application material?

Currently, the Steering Committee is not conducting interviews as part of the selection process.

What funding, in addition to an annual salary, will be provided for Fellowship research?

The C&GC Fellows receive an annual allowance of $8000 for travel and publication costs. It is important to have a conversation with your potential Host about the support they are able to provide.

Is there a limit to the number of Hosts one can approach for this Fellowship?

There is no limit. The best path is to find a Host  and institution that can provide the best support for your Research Proposal.

If I have already moved off from my PhD institution, is relocation still required for a Host institution for the C&GC Fellowship?

No. If you have already moved off to a postdoctoral or research position that is no longer your PhD institution, it is not necessary for you to relocate again.
