PUNCH CONNECT: Collaborative Event Analysis
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Oral
PUNCH Connect is a community initiative sponsored by the PUNCH mission that coordinates multi-instrument, multi-modeling analyses of scientifically compelling events anchored in PUNCH observations. Each event combines PUNCH data with complementary images and models, including on-disk and inner-coronal images, outer-coronal and heliospheric observations, in-situ measurements, and coronal and heliospheric models. The goals of PUNCH Connect are threefold.
1) Identify Events: We are developing a Calendar interface to facilitate searchability for time periods where PUNCH has interesting events (CMEs, SIRs) but also when other missions are observing co-temporally. We have also created a survey form to solicit input on good existing events as well upcoming time periods of interest (Parker perihelia, eclipses, comets, etc.).
2) Choose and Communicate PUNCH Connect Events: A small set of Connect events will be chosen based on critical-mass of community interest and identified leader(s) to move them forward. We will communicate these via our web page/mailing list as well as newsletters, etc., inviting the community to contribute their own observations, models, and analyses of PUNCH data.
3) Facilitate/Support Analysis: We will continue to support Event Leader(s) through e.g. providing PUNCH data/analysis expert consultants, highlighting Event publications/presentations/activities on our web pages, and organizing PUNCH Community Sandboxes to discuss results.
In this talk we will share some candidate PUNCH Connect Events and solicit suggestions for new events to be taken up for collaborative analysis.
