CPAESS made the most of AGU 2025 —strengthening connections, supporting our scientific community, and reaffirming our commitment to advancing Earth system science through collaboration and shared purpose.

December 2025, two CPAESS scientists were able to give brief presentations on their research during the hybrid UCP All-Staff Meeting to showcase their fine work.

In recent months Hanne Mauriello, director of the SPS | CPAESS, has been on a mission to build new relationships with sponsors, strategizing with them on new business opportunities and developing approaches to minimizing uncertainties, maintaining staffing levels, and preventing future furloughs. 

Producing a report of this magnitude is a heavy lift. This year there were 111 authors from 13 countries who proposed, wrote, and drew conclusions from the scientific evidence in 14 essays.

There is a new collaboration among states that comprise the Central Midwest: Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Emily Rountree acts as a hub or liaison, bringing together groups of like-minded researchers and professionals tackling climate adaptation planning and action and community engagement projects in their respective states.

On the first Saturday of November, the National Science Foundation’s NCAR Mesa Lab throws open its doors for Super Science Saturday. Among the CPAESS volunteers this year was David Stuebing, a human resources administrator.

The Indian Summer Monsoon, active from June to September, delivers about 80% of India’s annual rainfall in just four months. This phenomenon is called the Monsoon Onset Vortex (MOV), and it is precisely what interests Shreyas Dhavale.

Aissatou Faye is a UCAR |Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science (CPAESS) Visiting Scientist at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) – African Desk. Faye’s work centers on improving subseasonal to seasonal (S2S) forecasts using existing CPC forecast models to better predict extreme climate events and hazards such as floods and droughts across Africa.
