CIR observations in the PUNCH era

This talk will cover a select range of topics. I will start with a (mercifully) brief recap of the basic mechanisms and ancient history of CIR studies, then move on to results from the STEREO COR2 and HI instruments most relevant to upcoming PUNCH heliospheric imager observations. Speculations on several near-Sun and more distant CIR physical properties most accessible to PUNCH observations will be offered, including some related to time-dependent CIR evolution (as opposed to the standard fixed-in-the-corotating-frame view). Finally, I will emphasize the importance of expecting the unexpected in these new observations with some specific, embarrassing examples of narrow thinking that occurred in earlier solar wind studies.
