In 2018, a review of the Tropical Atlantic Observing System ("The TAOS Review") was initiated by the CLIVAR Atlantic Regional Panel to complement similar reviews that were recently conducted for the sustained observing systems in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The purpose of the TAOS Review was to evaluate scientific progress since the last review of the TAOS in 2006, to evaluate the current TAOS and its potential future needs in view of key scientific and societal drivers, and to make recommendations for the future evolution of the TAOS. In addition to observational requirements, the review considered data flow and information products as well as the possible future governance structure for the TAOS. In this presentation we will review the main findings and recommendations resulting from the TAOS Review.
