To make a reservation, you can either call 619-515-3038 and mention UCAR/JOSS to get the discounted rate, or you can make your reservation online. Please note that if UCAR is supporting your travel for this event, Melanie Russ will make your hotel reservation for you. Only individuals who’s travel support is not coming through UCAR will need to make a reservation.


Bus transportation will be provided between the Hotel La Jolla and the meeting location each day. The bus schedule can be found here.

Ground Transportation

San Diego International Airport is the closest airport for arrival. If you will have a rental car, driving directions can be found here.

If you won’t have a rental car, the SuperShuttle is a good option and costs $20 each way. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for approximately $35 one-way.

Federal Meals

Lunch will be provided on both Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, there will be a group dinner on Wednesday evening. It is assumed that all meeting participants will attend these events unless you send an email to me at indicating that you will not attend. (Vegetarian options will be available.)

Federal attendees: Please note, UCAR cannot provide meals for Federal employees. This regulation comes from OMB and OMB circulars and Federal agency regulations. It is NOT a UCAR regulation but must be followed due to funding terms and conditions. Therefore, it is requested that Federal employees contribute $18 toward each lunch and $36 toward the group dinner. The amount is calculated by using the specific meal portion of M&IE for La Jolla, which is in San Diego County.

UCAR–supported Attendees: $18 will be deducted from your travel voucher for each lunch, and $36 for the dinner. The amount deducted is calculated using the same data used for the Federal employees.
