RISA 2013 Annual Meeting

The RISA 2013 annual meeting aims to bring together 11 Regional Integrated Science Assessment teams to encourage a community of practice on 1) the study and use of knowledge networks and 2) preparedness and responsiveness to extreme events.

Discussions will include:  how to communicate best practices and results to stakeholders to ensure that the broader science community and policymakers benefit.  Context for the meeting: this past year has seen the culmination of many events, including the elevation of regional platforms as a means of studying climate impact, the President's Climate Action Plan, intense work on the National Climate Assessment, among others, which presents a critical juncture to think about the role of climate information.

Rate: $133 + tax per night

Reservation can be made by calling 1-800-237-5211 and asking for the “RISA Conference” block.  An American Express, Visa, Diner’s Club, Master Card, Discover or Carte Blanche will be requested to guarantee your reservation.  Reservations must be made by November 1st; after that time, they will only be accepted on a rate and space available basis.

Note: there is a 48-hour cancellation policy.

Shuttle Service:

SuperShuttle is a good option and costs $20 each way. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for approximately $35 one-way.

Federal Meals

A lunch will be provided on Wednesday, December 4th for those attending the RISA Annual Meeting. It is assumed that all meeting participants will attend the lunch unless you send an email to me at tara@ucar.edu indicating that you will not attend. (Vegetarian options will be available.)

Federal attendees:  Please note, UCAR cannot provide meals for Federal employees.  This regulation comes from OMB and OMB circulars and Federal agency regulations.  It is NOT a UCAR regulation but must be followed due to funding terms and conditions.  Therefore, it is requested that Federal employees contribute $18 toward each meal provided.  The amount is calculated by using the specific meal portion of M&IE for La Jolla, which is in San Diego County.  

For your convenience, it is now possible to pay this cost with a credit card on a secure website.  UCAR only accepts Visa and MasterCard. 

UCAR–supported Attendees: $18 will be deducted from your travel expense reimbursement claim form.  The amount deducted is calculated using the same data used for the Federal employees.

  2. Under "Payment Select," click on "Other Items" and then from the drop-down menu, choose “RISA Annual, Dec 2013, $18 (meal fee)” and then click on the “Next” button. 
  3. On the following screen, enter the amount, $18, and fill in your billing information. When you are ready, click on the "Start Process" button.
  4. You will receive an e-mail confirming your Registration payment.
