A collaborative workshop with NSF NCAR and Upper Colorado River Basin practitioners

(This workshop is by invitation only.)

Workshop Overview

We are convening a workshop of researchers, practitioners (State agencies from CO, UT, WY, and NM), and select Federal partners, with the overarching goal of sharing and learning from each other about the key needs for improving water systems research in support of management and planning. The workshop will be highly interactive, and aims to advance use-inspired and application-oriented research that meets decision-makers’ needs.

Proposed Topics

  • Subseasonal to seasonal (S2S) predictability

  • Decadal-centennial scale projections and predictions (2-100+ years)

  • Downscaling

  • Runoff predictability

  • Snow to flow

  • Water budgets

  • Groundwater/surfacewater interaction

  • Evapotranspiration

*Two pre-workshop virtual meetings will occur on April 17 and May 15 to refine the proposed topics, and to begin conversations that will be built upon at the workshop.

The workshop will include:

  • Dedicated time to hear from practitioners about their decision-making contexts, including what decisions they’re making, what information they use, and what information could help them more effectively plan and manage

  • Highlights of recent research at NSF NCAR on workshop topics, including the state of the science and future directions

  • Collaborative discussions about critical needs and opportunities

  • Opportunities to develop and strengthen relationships for future collaboration and ongoing discussions

Agenda

The workshop agenda will be available by May 1, 2026.

*Limited travel support will be available on an as-needed basis and can be requested on the registration form.
