Description of scientific projects
Research projects are focused on tropical and subtropical paleoceanography and paleoclimatology over the last few millions of years with emphasis on investigating the sensitivity of seasonal, interannual (ENSO) and longer term variability to changes to the mean background state. The study of seasonal and interannual variability utilizes corals, and the study of longer term variability utilizes deep ocean sediments. Projects involve isotopic and metal/Ca geochemical techniques for reconstructing past oceanic conditions and climate. Observations are used to test current theories and models of tropical and subtropical climate change.
