Climate and Atmospheric Sciences: The role of aerosols, clouds and water vapor in the global climate
Description of scientific projects
I use models, satellite data and in-situ observations to understand how past variability of aerosols, clouds and water vapor are affected by, and can affect, global to regional-scale climate variability. One of my new projects is to install a GPS water vapor network in the Saharan desert in order to understand how trace amounts of water vapor affect the dynamics of the West African Monsoon. Another is to make novel measurements of aerosol-cloud interactions in Southwest Africa via unmanned aircraft systems.
