Description of scientific projects
Three physical processes critical to tropical weather-climate interface and its global impact are investigated: (1) Air-sea interaction associated with the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), including the role of the MJO in the monsoon, the upper-ocean heat budget of the western Pacific warm pool, and ENSO; (2) Predictability of the MJO in terms of its initiation and propagation over the Maritime Continent (the barrier effect); (3) Analysis of observations and model simulations related to the international program Years of the Maritime Continent (YMC).
