Description of scientific projects
Our research is on the chemical composition of atmospheric aerosol particles, which is important for improving our knowledge of the direct and indirect effects of aerosols on climate and global change. We use a laser ionization mass spectrometer to measure the composition of single particles in the laboratory, at ground level, and in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. Important topics include the interaction of organics with sulfates and other aerosol consituents, the chemistry of halogens in aerosol particles, meteoritic debris in the stratsophere. and interactions between aerosol particles and clouds.
