Description of scientific projects
My research is aimed at uncovering the basic dynamics involved in climate variability. This involves research into the fluid-dynamical nature of coupled ocean-atmosphere variability using models of varying scales of complexity, from idealized semi-analytical models to GCMs. Additionally, I undertake research in the problems of the general circulation and, in particular, on the influence of eddies on the mean state of the ocean and atmosphere. A particular current interest is in the dynamics of the thermocline and the effects of mesoscale eddies on it. See my web site for more details. Current as of 2001
