Fields of interest
Large scale ocean circulation, water masses, and their variability; ocean dynamics; ocean-atmosphere interactions; and the ocean's role in climate.
Description of scientific projects
My research interests include (1) ocean general circulation: description and dynamics, (2) ocean water-mass structure and variability and their relations to air-sea exchange, and (3) storage and transport of ocean mass, heat, freshwater, and other tracers. I am co-chair of U.G. GO-SHIP, a member of the international GO-SHIP executive committee, and a member of the U.S. Argo Consortium. I conduct research throughout the global ocean using a variety of observational data including CTD data from profiling floats and repeat hydrographic sections, as well as current measurements and satellite data.
