Description of scientific projects
My general research interests are in the field of climate change and climate variability on time scales ranging from seasonal-interannual to glacial-interglacial cycles. My approach is to sudy the Earth system as a whole, focusing on the interactions among various components, in particular, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere, as well as the biogeochemical cycles, in particular the carbon cycle emedded in the physical systems. My research tools include a suite of models including atmosphere, land, vegetation, and ocean with intermediate complexity. Both modeling and data analyses are involved. Specific research topics include: Climate variability; Amazon deforestation; Water budget study; Interannual and interdecadal variability in the African and Asian monsoon regions. Glacial-interglacial CO2 change, climate influence on interannual CO2 variability, carbon cycle-climate interaction from paleo to global warming time scales.
