Description of scientific projects
The PMEL Aerosol Program is designed to quantify the spatial and temporal distribution of aerosols in marine atmospheres both close to and distant from continental aerosol sources. The physical, meteorological, and biogeochemical processes controlling aerosol formation, evolution and properties are studied. Ship-based transects yield ocean-scale distributions of aerosol chemical, physical, and optical properties. These transects, combined with process and closure studies during intensive field campaigns yield data to develop and test aerosol/climate model parameterizations. Most recently, PMEL has participated in ACE 1,ACE 2, INDOEX, and ACE Asia. Current as of 10/8/2002
