Description of scientific projects
My current climate change research is focused in three areas: (i) understanding the biogeochemistry and microbial community dynamics that control methane production in wetlands, (ii) a manipulative temperature and precipitation study to examine climate effects on the range distributions of native plant species and restoration potential of prairies in the Pacific Northwest, and (iii) modeling the coupled natural/human interactions in restoring oak savanna to reduce the risk of catastrophic fire and enhance biodiversity in the wildland/urban interface in the face of changing climate.
