Frederick A.B. Meyerson

Frederick A.B. Meyerson is an Assistant Professor of Demography, Ecology and Environmental Policy at the College of the Environment and Life Sciences, University of Rhode Island. He has been a faculty member at Yale University (1997-2000) and Brown University (2000-2003), and a research associate at Georgetown University (2004-2005). He was educated at Dartmouth (B.A.), Columbia (J.D.), and Yale University (M.E.S., Ph.D.) He has been a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a Visiting Scholar at the Population Reference Bureau. He was an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (2001-2003). Dr. Meyerson’s research and writing focus on population policy and the interactions between human demographic change and the environment, particularly climate change and the loss of biological diversity. He is the author of more than 50 scientific and popular articles and book chapters that have appeared in The Washington Post, Population and Development Review, Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Population Reference Bureau, Amicus Journal, Population and Environment, the International Herald-Tribune and elsewhere. He was one of the writers of the State of World Population 1999 and State of World Population 2001, the annual report of the UN Population Fund. He was a lead writer of Complex Environmental Systems, the 2003-2012 agenda for environmental research and education at NSF. He is writing a book on American population policy. He serves on the board of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on the editorial board of the academic journal Population and Environment, and on the advisory board of the Population Media Center. He is a former board member of the Guttmacher Institute (formerly AGI) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. He was an NGO delegate to the UN 1992 Earth Summit in Rio and the UN 1994 Population and Development conference in Cairo.
