Description of scientific projects
1. A NASA funded effort to understand the impacts of Pinyon-Juniper expansion on ecosystem carbon storage in the Western US 2. USGS funded research examining bedrock and soil geochemistry, plant nutrient cycling, controls on soil decomposition, soil texural influences on water and nutrients, grazing impacts on soils, dust and bedrock weathering and the impacts of droughts on ecosystems 3. A NASA funded effort to examine carbon cycling at the ecosystem to continental scale in Africa with focused measurements at Kruger National Park in South Africa. A Mellon Foundation funded project examining the role that essential, but non-limiting (P and the base cations) play in temperate ecosystem function. This project is focused on understanding interactions between substrate geochemistry and the composition and dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems
