Description of scientific projects
We are currently studying planktic foraminifer abundances in archived samples that were obtained by Dr. Bill Peterson as part of the Newport Hydrographic Line Copepod study. Our research focuses on quantifying the assemblage change during the Marine Heat Wave of 2014-2015 and the last heatwave in 2019. Research completed thus far includes only the NH line, however, we aim to expand this into other archived material throughout the entire Northern California Current. Future possibilities exist for the capture of live specimens off the coast of Oregon over the next 5 years. We will couple abundances with geochemical analyses and genetics.
