Description of scientific projects
Our group has developed a variety of aerosol mass spectrometers for laboratory and field measurements. Our current research interests focus in three areas: nanoparticles, microparticles and organic aerosol. In the nanoparticle area, we have developed a nano-aerosol mass spectrometer (NAMS) for single particle analysis in the 10-30 nm size range. Current work involves decreasing the minimum particle size below 10 nm to as low as 3 nm. This instrument has been used to study nanoparticle events in urban and coastal-marine locations. Other venues are planned for the future.
