Description of scientific projects
We examine the climatic, geologic, and anthropogenic factors that influence the cycling of carbon and nitrogen in terrestrial ecosystems. We continue to work on the effect of land use on soil carbon and nitrogen storage, and the role of land use as a global carbon source or sink. We utilize a combination of stable (C, N) and radioactive (C) isotopes in these studies. Additionally, we have conducted more than a decade of modeling and measurement research on the isotopic composition of soil CO2 and its role as an atmospheric tracer.
