Description of scientific projects
Recent and ongoing projects focus on the connection between late Quaternary ocean circulation and climate changes (our group pioneered the application of Nd isotopes as a high resolution ocean circulation tracer); climate change in the Levant climate based on the sediments deposited through time by the Dead Sea, including the recently recovered cores from the ICDP Dead Sea Deep Drilling Project; dust records (West Antarctica, Dead Sea, Red Sea – Gulf of Aden dust sources, Saharan dust in the Atlantic) to trace atmospheric circulation. Also, we are involved in trace element and isotope studies of present-day ocean circulation, mainly using Nd isotopes and REE, and are participants in the US Atlantic and Pacific GEOTRACES zonal transects.
