Land surface soil moisture and vegetation dynamics remote sensing, hydrological modeling and data assimilation
Description of scientific projects
Our projects aim at providing reliable, timely global land surface soil moisture and vegetation dynamics observations for applications to numerical weather/climate/hydrological predictions, agricultural forecasts and other relevant societal activities. Our primary observation approach is microwave satellite remote sensing combined with optical remotely sensed information. Main research activities include: develop, validate and apply retrieval algorithms for land surface soil moisture and vegetation dynamics monitoring, develop and refine land surface models for numerical weather/climate/hydrological forecasts and methodology for assimilating the satellite observations into the models toward their more accurate forecasts.
