UCAR | CPAESS' Community Engagement Specialist, Alison Gregory, just returned from attending the AMS Early Career Leadership Academy. “The American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Early Career Leadership Academy (ECLA) aims to build and sustain a diverse network of early career leaders in weather, water, and climate science. ECLA will bring together a select group of early career individuals—in particular, women and underrepresented minorities—for an immersion experience in leadership, such as creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, building trust, and enhancing communication skills (AMS).”

The program was held between March and June of this year, and consisted of 5 webinars culminating in a 3-day in-person meeting. This program has been active since 2018 and is intended to bridge the gap between students and late career researchers.

"This experience was a great opportunity to learn what my leadership style is, practice workplace communication and DEI skills,  and connect with other early career scientists. I highly recommend this program to anyone in the Weather Enterprise that is interested in professional development and connecting with others in our field. A special thank you to UCP and the Professional Development Support Program for making this experience possible!" As a UCAR | CPAESS Engagement Specialist, Alison partners with the National Weather Service in Boulder, Colorado.

The Early Career Leadership Academy (ECLA) is annually hosted by the American Meteorological Society (AMS), and is open to any early career professionals who work within the weather, water, or climate science enterprise. Learn more here. Congratulations Alison!
