Summary

While global ocean observing capacity has grown significantly over the last decades, critical gaps remain in our ocean observing capacity and in how this translates into decision-ready information. This presentation will focus on showcasing the lessons learned and processes established through the Ocean Observing Co-Design Program working through regional pilots that showcase effective entry points, strengthen user trust, refine observing requirements, and generate transferable tools.

About Ann-Christine

Ann-Christine Zinkann joined NOAA in 2020 as a Sea Grant Knauss Fellow and continued her role as a program manager at CPAESS UCAR. Her portfolio focuses on the coastal to open ocean interface including observing initiatives such as Gliders, XBTs, Mooring arrays, and the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) network. Additionally she engages in International initiatives such as the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) Observations Coordination Group (OCG), World Meteorological Organization and the Co-Design Program assessing ways to evolve ocean observing systems so they are agile and responsive to societal needs. Ann’s academic background is in marine biology, food web dynamics and modeling, oceanography and stable isotope analysis. She received a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
