How Hosting Institutions Apply
Responsibilities of Host
Hosts are expected to mentor the fellow as well as provide office space, a computer workstation, and any other unique research costs associated with this fellowship. UCAR sets aside some funds to help off set the high cost of publishing scientific results, but we request that hosts also help the postdoctoral fellows with some of these costs.
How to Apply
Hosts should provide the following materials to the potential postdoctoral fellow for submission with their application well in advance of the application deadline. For current deadline information please see the Recruitment Announcement link on the main menu.
Please prepare your materials in one (1) PDF document, in the order listed below:
- One or two-page letter of intent to host a specific fellow.
- Curriculum vitae, including publications (two-page limit).
- Mentoring Plan (one page limit) - the mentoring plan must describe the mentoring that will be provided to the postdoctoral fellow.
Examples of mentoring activities include, but are not limited to: career counseling; training in preparation of grant proposals, publications and presentations; guidance on ways to improve teaching and mentoring skills; guidance on how to effectively collaborate with researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplinary areas; and training in responsible professional practices.
- A list of current and pending research support.
Note: If you are writing a hosting letter for more than one postdoc, we expect that you will inform your candidates that you are proposing to host more than one C&GC postdoctoral fellow. The steering committee strives to spread appointments across institutions and does not place more than one fellow with the same host.
Co-Hosts
When an applicant has a Research Proposal aligned with two mentors (Hosts), the Letter of Intent should be co-written by both Hosts. We require separate documents for the remaining Host material (Resumes, Mentoring Plans, and Current and Pending Research Support) from each Co-Host.
Database of Potential Host Scientists
CPAESS operates an online, searchable database of potential NOAA C&GC hosts. All scientists at U.S. universities and research institutions are eligible to apply. All listed potential hosts have expressed an interest in hosting a C&GC postdoctoral fellow. Candidates for fellowships use this tool to research appropriate institutions. To be included in the Searchable Database for potential hosts, please register as a host.
NOTE: Even though a host is included in the host database, a potential host still needs to submit a host application as noted above.
