Congratulations Leadership Academy Graduates
CPAESS would like to extend our warm congratulations to CPAESS Staff Members and new Leadership Academy graduates: Grant Walters, Senior Learning & Development Advisor at the U.S. Geological Survey; Levin Carn, Deputy Information Technology Manager at NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL); and Andrew Penny, CPAESS Associate Scientists IV at the National Hurricane Center’s Storm Surge Unit.
UCAR's Leadership Academy is an intensive program for a cohort of 30 staff members from across the organization who are in, may soon find themselves in, or have an interest in mid-level leadership and management positions and above. The Leadership Academy is designed to strengthen leadership skills; and the program includes workshops, seminars, small-group projects, and personal coaching and mentoring provided by both UCAR staff and outside consultants.
Of the experience, Andrew said “I found the UCAR Leadership Academy to be really helpful. Perhaps most importantly, I appreciated the content related to developing trust in our working relationships. There were many good leadership ideas shared that I hope to put into practice going forward.” Levin shared “I discovered so much about myself, UCAR, and what it means to lead effectively. I frequently thought about how to integrate the knowledge I gained into every facet of my life, and I'm convinced that this exceptional experience has equipped me with all the tools to excel." Grant added "My participation in UCAR's Leadership Academy was truly a transformative experience - it encouraged me to think and act more strategically in my role in CPAESS, and to stretch my capacity to thoughtfully empower and include others in the work I do every day. I really value the connections I've made with peers, mentors, and facilitators over the last six months, and the valuable things I've learned from them will stay with me throughout my career."
SPS | CPAESS Director Hanne Mauriello shared “I am delighted that this experience has been so positive for each of you. It is always my pleasure to help develop vital skill sets for CPAESS staff. I truly look forward to hearing more from each of you about the new tools you have gained and how you will be implementing them in the workplace.”
